The Minister of Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde, has led a meeting between the Ministry of Minerals and the Association of Intermediate Mineral Traders – Brokers (CHAMMATA) to discuss the challenges they face and explore ways to resolve them to improve the efficiency of their operations.
The meeting took place today, August 24, 2024, in Dar es Salaam, and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Minerals, Dr. Steven Kiruswa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Engineer Yahya Samamba, the Commissioner of Minerals, Dr. AbdulRahman Mwanga, and some senior officials from the Mineral Commission along with the leadership of CHAMMATA.

Key highlights from the discussion include:
– Enforcement of Regulations: The Ministry reaffirmed the ban on foreign traders operating directly at mining sites, ensuring they remain within designated markets to maintain order and compliance in the sector.
– Regional Licensing: Minister Mavunde directed the issuance of mining business licenses to be managed regionally, streamlining the process and allowing traders to operate across multiple regions with ease.
– Support for Local Auctions: The Ministry is committed to strengthening local mineral auctions, which have already shown significant economic benefits in areas like Mirerani.
– Capacity Building for CHAMMATA: Recognizing the importance of structured operations, Minister Mavunde pledged to support CHAMMATA with necessary office equipment, enhancing their operational efficiency and making it easier for the government to engage with them.
