Tanzania embraces global collaboration on Strategic-Mineral development – Dr. Steven Kiruswa.

Las Vegas, Nevada – Speaking at MinExpo2024 in Las Vegas, Dr. Steven Kiruswa, Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Minerals, reiterated the country’s commitment to a multi-nation approach in the development of its strategic mineral resources. He emphasized that Tanzania does not play favorites when it comes to international partnerships, welcoming investment from companies around the world as long as they comply with Tanzania’s mining laws and regulations.

“Tanzania is open to all nations and companies who are interested in responsibly developing our resources,” Dr. Kiruswa remarked, underscoring the importance of an inclusive and transparent approach. He highlighted that this strategy aligns with President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision for the sector, which focuses on adding value to critical minerals within Tanzania to ensure that the country’s wealth benefits the local economy.

Tanzania’s emphasis on global collaboration reflects its intent to diversify partnerships and avoid overreliance on any one country. Dr. Kiruswa stressed that partnerships would be assessed based on compliance, transparency, and the mutual benefits they bring to the nation.

The Deputy Minister pointed to 12 major mineral projects currently ready for development, including six graphite initiatives, as prime examples of opportunities for global investors. These projects underscore Tanzania’s ambition to become a key player in the global supply chain for critical minerals while ensuring that international investment contributes to sustainable development.

In keeping with Tanzania’s open-door policy, Dr. Kiruswa extended an invitation to U.S. companies and others to participate in the upcoming International Mining Investment Conference, set for November 19-21, 2024, in Dar es Salaam. This conference, to be hosted at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, will provide a platform for showcasing the country’s thriving mining sector and encouraging collaboration from diverse international partners.

Dr. Kiruswa was accompanied by representatives from Tanzania’s Mining Commission, the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO), and other key stakeholders, reaffirming the country’s unified commitment to fostering global cooperation in its growing minerals sector.

By embracing a multi-nation approach, Tanzania is positioning itself as a neutral, attractive destination for global investors looking to secure critical minerals while adhering to responsible mining practices.
